Ju Soveral is an Italian-Brazilian circus artist who grew up immersed in the world of art and circus. Her relationship with the arts began in childhood, influenced by her family: she attended performances by her uncle, a clown, and her mother, a cultural producer and circus teacher, spending many weekends both in the audience and behind the scenes.
In 2012, when her mother began managing a circus space in São Paulo, Ju found herself in an environment that allowed her to discover and develop her artistic path. She visited the space daily after school and began her circus training through classes and sessions led by the artists who worked there. Training gradually gave way to her first school performances and invitations to participate in small festivals. During this period, she also began assisting her sister with circus classes for young children.
As performance opportunities grew, her interest in aerial techniques and artistic creation deepened. After graduating from high school, she decided to pursue further studies in Portugal, enrolling in a professional circus school, where she continued to develop her technique and artistic research.
During her training, she focused particularly on contemporary circus and dramaturgy, exploring ways of telling stories through the body and movement, in dialogue with dance. Her research is driven by an interest in exploring the body’s many possibilities, both in terms of its physical capabilities and its expressive and interpretive dimensions.
Ju currently continues to develop her technical practice across circus disciplines, with a particular focus on aerial techniques, flexibility and movement quality. Her practice spans aerial hoop, aerial silks, juggling and contemporary dance. In her creative process, she explores different dramaturgical approaches, ranging from humour and classical.
Her artistic journey brings together training, creation, performances and teaching experiences in Brazil, other Latin American countries and across Europe. Her practice remains in constant evolution, driven by curiosity, physical exploration and a desire to expand the expressive possibilities of circus.
